The Pied Piper is a happy musician in a feathered hat, playing a flute while a line of tiny mice follows along. Almost everything is made from simple shapes: curved lines for the head, a dome for the hat, a bell shape for the coat, and ovals for the mice. Once you can draw those, you can draw the whole story.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Sides of the head
Draw two curved lines for the head. Make a big curve on the left that bends like the bottom of a bowl, and a shorter curve on the right. Leave the top open for the hat.
Step 3: The hat
Draw a dome on top of the head, like half a circle, so it joins the two side curves. Close it off with a gently curved line across the bottom for the hat brim.
Step 4: The feather
Tuck a long, pointy leaf shape into the right side of the hat, pointing up and to the right. Draw a line down the middle of it for the feather's spine.
Step 5: The first eye
Add one small dot for an eye on the right side of the face, just under the hat brim.
Step 6: The long coat
Under the head, draw two lines going down and slightly out. Join them at the bottom with a rounded curve, like a bell. Add a straight line down the middle for the coat opening.
Step 7: Eye, smile and hands
Add a second dot for the other eye on the left, and draw a tiny curved smile below it. Then draw a rounded sleeve across the chest with two little hands at the end, and a few short dashes beside them.
Step 8: The flute
Draw a long thin tube starting near the mouth and sloping down to the right. Put a few small circles along it for the finger holes, and round off the end.
Step 9: Diamonds and coat bottom
Draw a tall pointy diamond on each side of the coat opening. Then draw a line across the bottom of the coat. Add a few tiny marks on the ground to the right, where the mice will go.
Step 10: The little mice
Along the ground at the bottom right, draw three small oval bodies in a row. Give each one a smaller round head on the left with a dot for an eye, and a tiny curl for a tail on the end.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing the Pied Piper
- Draw the hat dome so it meets the two side curves of the head, and keep the brim line gently curved.
- The flute is the trickiest part. Draw one long line sloping down to the right, then add a second line beside it so the tube stays the same width.
- Make the three mice the same size by drawing three matching ovals in a row before adding the heads, eyes and tails.
