How to Draw a Dragonfly and a Frog (Easy Step by Step)
A smiling frog on a lily pad watching a dragonfly zoom by is a happy, easy scene to draw. It is built from simple shapes: a round, bumpy head and body for the frog, a flat oval for the pad, and leaf shapes for the wings. Once you can draw these, you can make a whole pond.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head and body outline
Start with a wide, bumpy head that has two round bumps on top for the eyes. Let the line curve down each side into a big, round, pear-shaped body, leaving the bottom open.
Step 3: The lily pad
Draw a wide, flat oval under the frog for the lily pad. Then add a short curved line inside the front edge, heading toward the middle, for the notch.
Step 4: Foot and back leg
Draw a small rounded foot sticking out on the left side of the body, touching the pad. On the right, draw a curved line like a big hook for the bent back leg.
Step 5: Front legs and toes
Draw two short lines coming down from the belly for the front legs. Then draw a wiggly line along the bottom that joins them, making little bumpy toes.
Step 6: Eyes and smile
Fill in two round dots for the eyes, one inside each bump on top of the head. Then draw a happy curved line below them for a big smile.
Step 7: Dragonfly body
Up in the corner, left of the frog's head, draw a tiny dragonfly body with a small head and a stretched-out tummy. Add two short lines hanging down for legs.
Step 8: Dragonfly eye
At the front end of the dragonfly's head, draw a small round circle for the big bug eye. Add a tiny dot in the middle of it.
Step 9: The wings
Draw two long leaf shapes pointing up and two more pointing out to the left, all starting at the dragonfly's body.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dragonfly and a frog
- Draw the frog's head and body as one big pear shape first, with two small bumps on top, so the eyes end up spaced nicely.
- Make the lily pad a wide, flat oval. If it looks too round, squash it down so it looks like you are seeing it from the side.
- Draw the dragonfly small and light. Start with the little body and eye, then add the four wings like long leaves so they look balanced.
