  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Head and floppy ears

Draw a big rounded dome for the top of the head. At each side, keep going down and curl the line into a round, floppy ear flap that ends in a small curve near the middle of the face.

  3. Step 3: The ear folds

Draw a short curved line down inside each ear, starting near the top of the ear and ending near its bottom curve. This shows the ear hanging down beside the face.

  4. Step 4: The chin

Draw a smooth, wide U-shaped curve under the face. Start it where one ear ends and finish where the other ear ends.

  5. Step 5: The body sides

Below the chin, draw one long, nearly straight line down on the left. On the right, draw a slanted line that goes down and curves in at the bottom.

  6. Step 6: Tail and back leg

On the right side of the body, draw a small curved loop for the tail. On the left at the bottom, draw a small rounded shape for the back leg and foot.

  7. Step 7: Front legs and paws

Draw short straight lines down from the belly for the front legs. Join the bottoms with soft, bumpy curves to make two round paws.

  8. Step 8: Eyes and nose

Draw two round dots for the eyes, spaced apart on the face. Between and just below them, draw a small rounded triangle for the nose.

  9. Step 9: Smile and tongue

Under the nose, draw a little curved smile that bends up on each side. Then add a small U-shaped tongue hanging down in the middle.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a beagle puppy

  • Draw the ears so they start at the sides of the head and hang down past the cheeks. Floppy ears are what make this puppy look like a beagle.
  • Keep the two eyes the same size and the same height. Draw one first, then match the other to it, so the face looks friendly.
  • The paws are the trickiest part. Draw the short front legs first, then join the bottoms with gentle bumps.
