How to Draw a Beagle (Easy Step by Step)
A beagle is a fun dog to draw because it is mostly circles and curves. You will start with a big round head, add two long floppy ears, and finish with a wavy belt and a curved tail. The little smile and the dot eyes do most of the work of making it look happy.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The big round head
Draw a large circle near the top of your page for the head. Leave room underneath for the body.
Step 3: The long floppy ears
On each side of the head, draw a long curved ear that hangs down like a drooping leaf. Start each ear at the top of the head, curve it out and down, and end with a rounded tip.
Step 4: The body
Under the head, draw a tall rounded shape that is narrower than the head. Add two little bumps at the bottom for the front paws, with a small dip between them.
Step 5: Face stripe and muzzle
In the middle of the face, draw two long lines that start close together at the top of the head and widen as they go down. Join them to a round muzzle shape near the bottom of the face.
Step 6: Eyes and nose
Draw a dot for each eye, one on each side of the stripe. Then draw a small rounded nose at the top of the muzzle and fill it in.
Step 7: The happy smile
Inside the muzzle, under the nose, draw a small wavy line for the mouth, like a little letter w.
Step 8: The curved tail
On the right side of the body, draw a long curved line that swoops down like a hook. Draw a second line beside it to make the tail thick.
Step 9: Belt and strap
Draw a wavy line across the middle of the body, like gentle little scallops. Then, on the right side near the ear, add a short line with a small loop for a strap.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a beagle
- Draw the head circle first and keep it big. The ears are easiest to place when they start at the top corners of the head.
- The face is the trickiest part. Draw the two stripe lines so they start close together at the top of the head and spread apart as they go down to the muzzle.
- Make the two ears about the same length. Try drawing the left one, then comparing the right one to it before you finish.

How to color your beagle drawing
Beagles are usually brown, white, and tan, so try brown ears, a white stripe and muzzle, and a tan body. For a creative twist, give your beagle a bright rainbow belt.
Beagle fun fact for kids
Beagles have a very strong sense of smell, and some work as detection dogs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has used beagles at airports to sniff out food that visitors are not allowed to bring into the country.
