How to Draw an Astronaut (Easy Step by Step)
This little astronaut holds a flag high and is a great first space drawing. It is built from simple shapes: a big circle for the helmet, an oval for the window, a small rounded rectangle for the control panel, and a few curved lines for the suit. Take it one shape at a time and the whole astronaut comes together.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The helmet
Start with a big round circle for the space helmet. Leave a small gap at the bottom where the neck will go.
Step 3: The face window
Inside the helmet, draw a wide oval for the glass window. Leave some space between the oval and the helmet edge all the way around.
Step 4: Collar and chest panel
Close the gap under the helmet with a short curved line for the collar. Below it, draw a small rounded rectangle for the control panel, and add a short curved line to the lower left for the start of the body.
Step 5: Arms and body sides
Draw the left arm sticking out sideways and ending in a rounded mitten. Draw the right arm reaching up and out, then add two lines curving down from the collar for the sides of the body.
Step 6: Flag and pole
Next to the raised arm, draw a long straight pole going down. At the top of the pole, draw a small rectangle for the flag, and add a little curve where the hand holds the pole.
Step 7: Backpack and legs
At the bottom of the body, draw a rounded shape poking out on each side for the backpack. Then draw two short legs going down, each ending in a rounded boot.
Step 8: Smiling face
Inside the window, draw two small round dots for eyes. Then add a little curved smile between them, below the eyes.
Step 9: Final dots
Draw three small dots inside the control panel on the chest. Finish with one small dot in the middle of the flag.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an astronaut
- Draw the helmet circle first and keep it light. If it looks a bit squished, that is fine, because the window oval will sit nicely inside it either way.
- The raised arm is the trickiest part. Draw it as one line reaching up and out from the shoulder, then add the straight flag pole beside the hand.
- Draw the backpack so it pokes out on both sides of the body. Then the two legs tuck right under it, each with a rounded boot.

How to color your astronaut drawing
Try a white or light gray suit with a blue window and a red flag, with yellow dots on the control panel. For a creative twist, draw a starry sky and a gray Moon surface with craters around your astronaut.
Astronaut fun fact for kids
Astronauts' space suits are white because white reflects sunlight. In space the sun can be very hot, and a light color helps keep the suit from heating up too much.
