This little planet has a big ring, two stripes and a happy smile. It is built from circles, ovals, curved lines and five-pointed stars, so it is a good drawing for practicing round shapes. Add a few twinkling stars around it and your planet floats in space.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The round planet
Draw a big circle in the middle of your paper. Leave two small gaps in the line, one on the right side and one at the lower left, where the ring will pass in front.
Step 3: The outer ring
Draw a long, tilted oval that leans up toward the right, like a hula hoop around the planet. Where it reaches the circle, let it stop at the circle's edge on the upper part and cross in front along the bottom.
Step 4: The inner ring
Draw a second, smaller oval inside the big ring, following the same tilt. Keep the space between the two ovals about the same all the way around.
Step 5: Two stripes
Draw two curved lines across the top of the planet, leaning the same way as the ring. Start each one on the left edge of the circle and end on the right edge.
Step 6: A happy face
Under the stripes, add two small round dots for eyes. Then draw a little curved smile between and below them.
Step 7: The first star
In the top left corner, draw a small star with five points. Start at one point and zigzag out and in around the star until you come back to where you began.
Step 8: More twinkly stars
Add a smaller star in the top right corner and another star in the bottom right corner. They can be smaller or bigger than the first one.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a planet
- Draw the planet circle first, then add the ring. The ring crosses in front of the circle along the bottom, so leave gaps in the circle's line where the ring passes.
- Draw the outer ring, then the inner ring a little smaller inside it. Try to keep the gap between them even.
- Make the stripes lean the same way as the ring so the planet looks like it is tilting. Draw them lightly first and trace over once you like them.

How to color your planet drawing
Try golden yellow and orange for the planet, with a pale purple ring. For a creative twist, color each star a different color or make the ring rainbow striped.
Planet fun fact for kids
Saturn is the planet famous for its rings, and they are made of billions of pieces of ice and rock. The pieces range from tiny grains to chunks as big as a house.
Questions about drawing a planet
What shapes do I need to draw a planet?
You need a circle for the planet and a long tilted oval for the ring, with a smaller oval inside it. Two curved lines make the stripes, and a few five-pointed stars fill the sky.
How do I make my planet ring look like it goes around the planet?
Let the ring cross in front of the circle along the bottom, and leave out the part of the circle's line that the ring covers. Drawing a second oval inside the first makes the ring look like a flat band.
How do I make my planet look cuter?
Give it a face with two round dot eyes and a small smile below them. Keep the eyes on the lower half of the planet, below the stripes, and add a few stars nearby.
