This Christmas bear is cute and cozy, and it is built mostly from ovals and curves. A big head, a round body and two flat feet make a friendly teddy, and a Santa hat and candy cane turn it into a holiday character. It is a good first drawing for young artists.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The big head
Draw a big wide oval in the middle of the page for the head. Make it a little wider than it is tall, and leave room above it for a hat.
Step 3: Body sides
Under the head, draw two curved lines for the sides of the body. Start each one at the bottom of the head and curve it down and a little inward. Leave the bottom open for now.
Step 4: Two round ears
Add a half circle on each upper side of the head for the ears. Then draw a smaller curve inside each one.
Step 5: Arm and feet
Draw a small curl on the left side of the body for the arm. Then add two flat ovals at the bottom of the body for the feet, with a short line joining them in the middle.
Step 6: The Santa hat
Draw a long rounded rectangle across the top of the head for the fuzzy brim. Then draw a curved cone shape sticking up from it, and finish with a little circle pom-pom at the tip.
Step 7: The muzzle
Draw a medium oval in the lower middle of the face. This is the bear's snout.
Step 8: Eyes, nose and smile
Add two small dots for eyes, high up on the face and spaced apart. Inside the muzzle, draw a short line down from the top for the nose, with a little curve at the bottom for a smile.
Step 9: The candy cane
Next to the bear's right side, draw a tall straight stick with a hook at the top, like an upside-down J. Add short slanted lines across the stick to make the stripes.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Christmas bear
- Draw the head first and make it big. The body and feet are small, which is what makes the bear look cute.
- The hat brim sits on top of the head and overlaps it. Draw the brim as a rounded rectangle, then add the cone above it.
- For the candy cane, draw the straight stick with the hook at the top. Then add the stripes as short slanted lines.

Christmas bear fun fact for kids
Teddy bears are named after United States President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt. In 1902 he refused to shoot a bear on a hunting trip, and a cartoon about it inspired a toy maker to start selling "Teddy's bears."
