This round little turkey is mostly circles and leaf shapes, which makes it a good first fall drawing. A big circle makes the body, a smaller circle makes the face, and five leaf shapes fan out behind like feathers. It sits on a flat oval plate, just like a cookie ready to be decorated.

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round body

Draw a big circle in the middle of your paper for the turkey's body. Make it as round as you can, and keep it fairly large.

  3. Step 3: The face

Inside the top of the body, draw a smaller circle for the face. Let its bottom edge dip down into a tiny point in the middle.

  4. Step 4: Top feathers

Draw a tall leaf shape standing straight up from the top of the body. Add one leaf leaning left and one leaning right, so they fan out like a crown.

  5. Step 5: Side feathers

Draw two more leaf shapes pointing out to the left and right, starting from the sides of the body. Make them lie almost flat, like little wings.

  6. Step 6: Eyes, beak and wattle

Make two round dots for eyes in the middle of the face. Draw a small rounded triangle for the beak, then a little oval hanging just below it for the wattle.

  7. Step 7: Belly dots

Add a curved row of five little dots across the lower part of the body, like a smile. Try to space them evenly.

  8. Step 8: The plate

Draw a wide, flat oval under the turkey, like a plate or a cookie tray. Start on one side of the body, loop down and around, and come back up to the other side.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Every step of the turkey cookie drawing on one page. Save it for later.
  • Draw the body circle first and keep it light. The feathers and face both depend on it, so it helps to get it round.
  • The feathers are the trickiest part. Draw a long curved line up, then a second curved line back down so the two meet in a point at the top.
  • Space the belly dots as you go. Start with the middle dot, then add one on each side, and finish with one more on each end so they stay balanced.

Try warm browns for the body, and red, orange, yellow and green for the feathers, with an orange beak and a red wattle. For a twist, color the plate like a frosted cookie with sprinkles.

Male turkeys are called toms, female turkeys are called hens, and baby turkeys are called poults.

What shapes do I need to draw a turkey cookie?

You need two circles for the body and face, five leaf shapes for the feathers, a small rounded triangle for the beak, a little oval for the wattle and a wide oval for the plate.

How do I make my turkey look cuter?

Keep the eyes as simple round dots and the beak small. Fat, rounded feathers also make the turkey look friendlier.

How do I draw the feathers so they look even?

Draw the tall middle feather first, then add one on each side leaning outward. Finish with the two side feathers so the fan looks balanced.
