Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The big head
Draw a big round oval for the head, a little wider at the bottom. Leave a small gap at the top, because the hat will sit there.
Step 3: The party hat
On top of the head, draw a tall triangle for the hat, with a small circle at the tip. Add one curved line across the bottom of the hat for a stripe.
Step 4: The body
Under the head, draw a short body shaped like a rounded box. Start at the bottom of the head, go down both sides, and close it with a gently curved line at the bottom.
Step 5: Arms and hands
Draw a long, skinny oval along each side of the body for the arms. Finish each one with a small curl for a hand. Add two tiny lines under the body for the legs.
Step 6: Two round feet
Draw a wide, flat oval at the bottom of each leg for the feet. Put them side by side, just under the body.
Step 7: Face and party horn
Add two dots for the eyes. Then draw a short wiggly line for the mouth that ends in a little spiral, like a party horn.
Step 8: The star shirt
Draw a star in the middle of the body. Start with a point at the top and zigzag around until the star closes up.
Step 9: The birthday cake
Next to the hand on the right, draw a long box for the slice of cake with a wavy line of frosting across it. On top, draw a short stick with a small flame shape for the candle.
Step 10: Confetti dots
Fill the empty space around your kid with small dots of confetti. Scatter them on both sides, some high and some low.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a birthday kid
- Draw the hat after the head, and let its bottom curve follow the top of the head so it looks like it sits on there.
- Draw the party horn as a wiggly line first, then add the little spiral at the end. Take your time with the curl.
- Make the star a little bigger than you think you need. It is easier to draw the points when the star has room.
