How to Draw a Duckling (Easy Step by Step)
This little duckling is fun to draw because it is made almost entirely of ovals and round shapes. A big oval makes the head, a round shape makes the tummy, and small ovals make the wings. With a wide flat beak and three wispy feathers on top, it ends up looking sweet and a bit silly.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The big head
Draw a big, wide oval near the top of your page, leaving a tiny gap at the top. Add a little curl at the gap that bends over like a small hook. Leave room underneath for the body.
Step 3: The round body
Start just under the head on each side and draw a short curve that bends outward, like the top of a round tummy. Then add a short curved line at the bottom, with two tiny curved marks on each side of it, to show where the tummy ends.
Step 4: Two little wings
Draw a tall, skinny oval on each side of the body, tucked against the tummy. Make the two wings about the same size so they match.
Step 5: Webbed feet
At the bottom of the body, draw a small flat box for each foot, one on the left and one on the right. Make the bottom edge of each one a little wavy.
Step 6: Two small eyes
Draw two small dots in the middle of the head, one on the left and one on the right. Keep them far apart and at the same height.
Step 7: Beak and smile
Draw a wide, flat oval between the eyes, a little lower down, for the beak. Add a curved smile line inside it.
Step 8: Fluffy head tuft
On top of the head, next to the curl, draw two short curved lines that stick up like wispy feathers. Let each one bend a little differently.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a duckling
- Draw the head first and keep it big. A large head and a small body is what makes the duckling look young and cute.
- The beak sits low on the face. Put it below the eyes and in the middle so it looks friendly and not squished.
- Make the two wings match by drawing them at the same height on each side of the body. Check them against each other before you move on.

Duckling fun fact for kids
Ducklings can swim within a day or so of hatching. They are covered in fluffy down, and they usually follow their mother wherever she goes.
