How to Draw a Tulip (Easy Step by Step)
A tulip is a great first flower because it is made from just a few pointed oval shapes and one straight line. You will draw a middle petal, two side petals, a stem, and two big leaves. Each part is easy by itself, and together they make a flower that looks like it belongs in a spring garden.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The center petal
Start at the top and draw a pointed leaf shape, like a long lemon, with a point at the top and a narrow point at the bottom. This is the big middle petal.
Step 3: The side petals
Start at the left side of the middle petal and draw a small pointed petal that curves out and down. Keep going in one big curve under the middle petal, then swing up on the right side to make a matching pointed petal.
Step 4: The petal curve
Inside the middle petal, draw one short curved line, like a little smile standing up on its side.
Step 5: The long stem
From the bottom point of the flower, draw a straight line going down. Try to keep it nice and steady.
Step 6: The left leaf
Near the bottom of the stem, draw a big pointed leaf stretching out to the left. Make the tip sharp and the bottom curved like a boat.
Step 7: The right leaf
Draw another pointed leaf stretching out to the right. It should start at the same spot on the stem as the left leaf.
Step 8: Leaf veins
Draw a long curved line inside each leaf, starting near the leaf tip and curving down toward the bottom of the stem. The two lines meet at the stem.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a tulip
- Draw the middle petal first and make it a pointed oval. The two side petals then tuck in beside it, so they are easier to place.
- The stem is the trickiest line because it is long. Move your whole arm instead of just your fingers, and draw it in one smooth stroke.
- Make both leaves start from the same spot on the stem. If one leaf is bigger than the other, that is fine. It makes your tulip look natural.

Try red, pink, or yellow for the petals and two different greens for the stem and leaves. For a creative twist, color each petal a different color to make a rainbow tulip.
