How to Draw a Raccoon (Easy Step by Step)
A raccoon is a fun animal to draw because it is built from a few simple shapes. You will use an oval for the head, a rounded body, two pointy ears and a curved tail, and the goggle-shaped mask makes it look like a little bandit. It is a good first drawing for beginners.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The head
Draw a wide, round oval for the head, a little wider than it is tall. Make it big, because the face goes inside it.
Step 3: The body
Under the head, draw two long curved lines that start at the bottom of the head and bow outward, so the body gets wider toward the bottom. Join them with a wavy line along the bottom for the feet.
Step 4: Pointy ears
Add a rounded triangle with a pointy top on each side of the head. Then draw a short curved line inside each ear.
Step 5: The bushy tail
Start at the bottom of the body on the right side and draw a curved line that sweeps out and up beside the body. Bring it back down to make a pointed tip at the top, so the tail looks like a thin curved leaf.
Step 6: The mask
Across the middle of the face, draw a wide shape like a pair of goggles, with two rounded bumps joined by a little dip in the middle. This is the raccoon's famous mask.
Step 7: Eyes, nose and mouth
Draw a small solid dot inside each side of the mask for the eyes. Add a rounded triangle nose below the mask, then a little wavy smile under it.
Step 8: Tail stripes
Draw three short curved stripes across the tail, from one edge to the other. Space them out so they look like rings around the tail.
Step 9: Tummy ovals
Draw two small tall ovals on the front of the body, one on each side. These are the raccoon's tummy marks.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a raccoon
- Draw the head as a wide oval before anything else. If it is wider than it is tall, the raccoon looks friendlier.
- The mask is the trickiest part. Start with two rounded bumps side by side and join them with a small dip in the middle.
- Draw the tail as one long curve with a pointed tip first, then add the stripes across it. Stripes that curve a little look like they wrap around the tail.

How to color your raccoon drawing
Color the mask and the tail stripes dark gray, and the rest of the fur a lighter gray or brown. You can leave the tummy ovals white or color them a soft cream.
Raccoon fun fact for kids
Raccoons have very sensitive front paws, and they often dunk their food in water before eating it.
