  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The palm outline

Draw a tall, rounded shape like a mitten for the palm. Start with a little curved bump at the top left, go down the left side, curve across the flat bottom, and come up the right side, ending in a small hook at the top right.

  3. Step 3: The turkey head

On the left side of the palm, draw a round egg shape for the head. Start the curve at the palm's left edge, loop out to the left, and bring it back to touch the palm lower down.

  4. Step 4: Two tall fingers

At the top of the palm, draw two tall fingers side by side. Each one is a long upside-down U shape, with its sides running down into the palm.

  5. Step 5: Last two fingers

Draw one straight line going down on the left to finish the first finger. Then, on the right side, draw a slanted finger with a rounded tip that leans out toward the edge.

  6. Step 6: Knuckle curves

Across each of the four fingers, draw a short, gentle curve like a tiny smile. These show where each finger bends.

  7. Step 7: Beak, eye and wattle

Draw a small pointy triangle on the left of the head for the beak, and a round dot for the eye. Under the beak, add a little loop that hangs down for the wattle.

  8. Step 8: Two skinny legs

Under the palm, draw two short straight lines going down. At the bottom of each one, add a little forked foot with two or three tiny toes.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a hand turkey

  • Draw the palm outline first and leave room at the top, so the four fingers have space and do not squish together.
  • The knuckle curves are the trickiest part. Make them short, gentle smiles and do not worry if they are not exactly the same.
  • Draw the wattle as a small loop under the beak. Keep it small so it does not take over the face.
