How to draw a waiter step by step

How to Draw a Waiter · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The big round head

Draw a big circle that is a little taller than it is wide. Leave room underneath for the body.

  3. Step 3: The hair

Inside the top of the head, start at the left side and draw a line up to a small point in the middle. Then curve it down and across to the right side, like a neat side part.

  4. Step 4: Face, bow tie and details

Add two small dots for eyes and a happy curved smile. Below the chin, draw a bow tie with a little V and a short line going down from it. Then draw a short curved line reaching out to the right for the top of the sleeve, and two small stripes off to the left.

  5. Step 5: The vest

Under the head, draw two long lines for the sides of the vest. The left one starts beside the bow tie and goes straight down, and the right one starts just past the bow tie and goes down too.

  6. Step 6: The apron

Draw a wide shape like a flat-topped trapezoid on the front of the vest. Close it at the bottom with a gently curved line.

  7. Step 7: Two round shoes

At the bottom of the apron, draw two flat ovals side by side, one for each shoe. Let them peek out from under the apron.

  8. Step 8: The raised arm

On the right side of the body, draw a curved line under the sleeve that reaches up and out. Finish it with a small U-shaped hand at the end.

  9. Step 9: The serving tray

Above the hand, draw a long flat oval for the tray. Put a half circle on top for the dome cover, then add a tiny loop on top for the handle.

  10. Step 10: The towel

On the left side of the body, draw a towel hanging down. Start with a curved line at the top, go straight down the side, and finish with a wavy bottom edge so it meets the stripes.

  11. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a waiter

  • Draw the head circle large and light first, so the body and the tray both have room on the page.
  • The tray is the trickiest part, so draw the long flat oval first, then set the dome right on top of it.
  • Keep the hand small and round. Then the raised arm will look like it is really holding the tray up.

How to color your waiter drawing

Try a black vest, a white apron and a red bow tie, with a silver tray and dome. For a creative twist, color the dome gold and draw a pretend dinner under it.

Waiter fun fact for kids

The dome-shaped cover on a serving tray is called a cloche, which is the French word for bell. It keeps food warm on the walk from the kitchen to the table.

Questions about drawing a waiter

What shapes do I need to draw a waiter?

You need a big circle for the head, a trapezoid for the apron, and two long lines for the vest. Flat ovals make the shoes and the tray, and a half circle makes the dome.

How do I make my waiter look cuter?

Make the head extra big and keep the eyes small and wide apart. Then add a curved smile and a tiny bow tie.

How do I draw the tray so it looks like it is resting on the hand?

Draw the small hand at the end of the arm first, then place the flat oval of the tray just above it. Let the hand touch the bottom of the tray, and the tray will look like it rests there.
