Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Sides of the head
Draw two curved lines for the sides of a big round head. Start each one near the top, curve them out and around, and stop near the bottom, leaving the top and bottom open.
Step 3: The conductor hat
Draw a flat-topped box with slightly slanted sides across the top of the head. Then add a wide curved band along the bottom of the hat, reaching a little past each side.
Step 4: The hat badge
Draw a tiny circle in the middle of the hat with an even tinier circle inside it. This is the conductor's badge.
Step 5: The jacket body
Under the head, draw a short box with slightly wobbly sides for the jacket. Start with a straight line across the top for the neckline, then draw down both sides and close the bottom with a flat line.
Step 6: An eye and whistle
Draw one round dot for an eye. Below it, draw a short curvy line for the mouth that ends in a small ring for the whistle.
Step 7: Arms and hands
On one side, draw an arm hanging down as a curved shape that ends in a small loop for the hand. On the other side, draw an arm reaching up and out, ending in a small circle hand.
Step 8: The flag
Draw a long straight line going up and down through the raised hand for the pole. At the top, draw a small flag with a wavy edge, pointing to the side.
Step 9: Face and jacket details
Add the second dot eye and a tiny dot inside the whistle ring. Draw a V shape at the collar, a straight line down the middle of the jacket, and little button dots on both sides. Add a small curved chain line on the jacket and two short lines under the jacket for legs.
Step 10: Watch and shoes
Draw a small ring at the end of the chain for the pocket watch. Then draw two flat ovals side by side at the bottom of the legs for shoes.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a train conductor
- Draw the two sides of the head so they curve out evenly, then the hat can sit across the open top.

Questions about drawing a train conductor
What shapes do I need to draw a train conductor?
You need two curves for the head, a flat-topped box for the hat, a box for the jacket, and small circles for the badge, hands, whistle, watch and buttons. The shoes are flat ovals.
How do I make the conductor look friendlier?
Draw the smile with a gentle curve and place the two eye dots a good distance apart. Keep the whistle small so the face stays open and cheerful.
How do I draw the flag waving?
Make the outer edge of the flag a gentle wavy curve instead of a straight line. This makes it look like it is moving in the wind.
