How to Draw a Skateboarder (Easy Step by Step)
A skateboarder with a big round helmet is a fun first character to draw, because almost everything is made from circles, ovals and boxes. The helmet is a dome, the shoes are ovals, and the skateboard is a tall rounded rectangle. Once you know those shapes, you can dress your skater any way you like.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Helmet and head outline
Draw a rounded dome for the helmet and add a curved line across it for the rim. Then draw the left cheek curving down to a chin, and a straight line going down on the right side.
Step 3: Helmet stripes
Inside the helmet dome, draw three short stripes, one straight in the middle and one tilted on each side. They look like air vents.
Step 4: Face, shirt and shorts
Add two round dots for eyes and a little smile below them. Under the head, draw a small collar and a boxy shirt with two short lines in the middle, then a wide box of shorts with a small pointed shape between the legs. Add the arm on the right as a short bent shape ending in a small circle for the hand, and two little wheel shapes on the right side.
Step 5: The other arm
On the left side of the shirt, draw a long slanted oval for the arm hanging down. Put a small circle at the bottom for the hand.
Step 6: The pocket
In the middle of the shirt, just above the shorts, draw a pocket shape like a wide rounded trapezoid.
Step 7: Two shoes
At the bottom of the shorts, draw a wide oval for each shoe. Make both ovals about the same size and set them side by side.
Step 8: The skateboard
On the right side, draw a tall, narrow shape with rounded ends, standing on its end. Let its top curve up toward the head and let the wheels you drew earlier sit on its edge.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a skateboarder
- Draw the helmet big, almost as wide as the whole body, so it has room for its stripes.
- The skateboard is the trickiest part. Draw the long rounded board last, and let it stand beside the wheels so they line up top and bottom.
- Keep both shoe ovals the same size and line them up side by side so your skater looks steady.

Skateboarder fun fact for kids
Skateboards were first made in California in the 1950s, when surfers wanted something to ride when the waves were flat. Early ones were wooden boards with roller skate wheels attached.
