How to Draw a Magician (Easy Step by Step)

A magician is a friendly character built from simple shapes: a big oval for the head, a short box for the top hat, and a few straight lines for the jacket and cape. The best part is the tiny bunny peeking out of a small hat, which makes this drawing feel like a real magic trick.

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round head

Draw a big round oval for the head, a little wider than it is tall. Leave the top open, because the hat will sit there.

  3. Step 3: The top hat

Draw a short box shape for the crown of the hat, with a flat top. Add a stripe across the bottom for a hat band, then a wide flat oval for the brim so it rests on the head.

  4. Step 4: The jacket

Under the chin, draw two long lines going straight down for the sides of the jacket. Curl each one out a little at the bottom, and keep them apart so there is room for the body in the middle.

  5. Step 5: The cape edge

At the bottom, draw a wide wavy line for the hem of the cape. At each end, draw a short line sloping up and toward the jacket.

  6. Step 6: Legs and shoes

Between the bottom of the jacket, draw a short shape with a flat top and two sloping sides for the pants. Then draw two flat ovals at the bottom for big round shoes.

  7. Step 7: The magic wand

On the left, draw a long, slanted stick going up and to the left. At the top, draw a small star.

  8. Step 8: Little hat and bunny ears

On the right, draw a small U-shaped curve with a short flat rim for the bottom of a little hat. Above it, draw two tall, thin loops side by side, like long bunny ears.

  9. Step 9: Face, arms and details

Add two dots for eyes and a curved smile on the face. Draw a small bow tie under the chin and a thin tie below it. Then draw the arms with round hands holding the wand and the little hat, and finish the bunny with a round head and two dots for eyes.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a magician

  • Draw the head first and keep it big and round. The hat then sits on top of it, so leave a little gap at the top of the oval.
  • The wand is easiest if you draw the long slanted stick first and add the star at the end of it.
  • Make the bunny small. Two tall loops for ears and a round head are enough, so don't worry about adding more detail.

Magician fun fact for kids
