Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big round oval for the head, starting at the bottom left and going up and around to the bottom right. Leave a gap at the bottom where the neck will go.
Step 3: Headband and tails
Draw two curved lines across the middle of the head to make a wide band. On the right side, add two ribbon tails: a leaf-shaped one that curls up and a thin one that swooshes down and out.
Step 4: Body sides
Under the head, draw two long lines going straight down, with a short line across the top to join them. The left line can be a bit longer than the right.
Step 5: Fist curves
Draw a small curve like a letter C on each side of the head, low down. They make the start of the fists, so keep them about the same size.
Step 6: Bent arms
Finish each fist into a round circle. Then draw a long curved line hanging down from each fist and bending in toward the body, like a bent elbow.
Step 7: Belt and knot
Draw a straight line across the lower body for the belt. In the middle, add a small bumpy knot.
Step 8: Shoes
At the bottom of the legs, draw two curved shapes like the bottoms of flat ovals, one for each shoe. Leave a little space between them.
Step 9: Face and uniform
Add two small dots for eyes and a curvy smile. Draw an X across the chest for the uniform, finish the sleeves, belt ends and legs, and close the shoes into flat ovals.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a karate kid
- Draw the headband after the head is done, and curve both lines the same way so the band wraps around.
- Draw the ribbon tails on one side only. Make one tail curl up and the other swoosh down.
- Make both fists about the same size. Draw the fists first and the arms second, so the arms are easier to connect.

Questions about drawing a karate kid
What shapes do I need to draw a karate kid?
You need one big oval for the head, two long lines for the body, circles for the fists and flat ovals for the shoes. Everything else is just curved lines and small dots.
How do I make my karate kid look cuter?
Keep the eyes as small dots and the smile small and curved. A big head compared with the body makes the character look extra cute.
How do I draw the headband tails?
Draw one tail as a leaf shape that curls up and the other as a thin curve that swooshes down. Both start at the side of the headband, so they look like they are blowing in the wind.
