How to Draw a Dog House (Easy Step by Step)
A dog house is a great first building to draw because it is made from simple shapes: a triangle, a slanted roof, straight walls and one big arch for the door. A little puppy peeking out, a bone sign and a food bowl make it feel like a real home. Once you can draw this one, you can change the sign or the roof to make your own.

Step 1: Roof outline
Start at the bottom left and draw a long slanted line up to a peak. Draw a short line across the top to the right, then slant down to the bottom right to make a tall, open roof shape.
Step 2: Roof ridge line
Draw a slanted line from the top left peak down to the bottom right corner of the roof. This splits the roof into a triangle on the left and a long slanted panel on the right.
Step 3: Roof boards
Draw two curved lines across the slanted roof panel, from its left edge to its right edge. They split the roof into three boards.
Step 4: Walls and floor
Draw a straight line down from the left end of the triangle, then a flat line along the bottom. Add a straight line down where the roof meets the wall, and a tall line on the right with a short slanted line at its bottom. Add a small curve at the bottom left for the start of a bowl.
Step 5: The doorway
In the middle of the front wall, draw an upside-down U shape for the doorway. Start and end the sides on the floor line.
Step 6: The sign
Above the door, draw a wide rectangle with slightly curved top and bottom lines. This is the sign board.
Step 7: The bone
Inside the sign, draw a bone that looks like a short bar. Give each end two round bumps.
Step 8: Puppy and bowl
In the doorway, draw a small round head peeking over the floor line, with a floppy ear on each side. Then finish the bowl at the bottom left by drawing a flat line across the top of the curve you drew before.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dog house
- Draw the roof wide, so the sign and the door have plenty of room underneath.
- The bone is the trickiest part. Draw a short bar first, then add two round bumps at each end.
- Keep the puppy small and low in the doorway so only its head shows over the floor line.

Dog house fun fact for kids
A dog's sense of smell is far better than a person's, because dogs have many more scent receptors in their noses.
