This cozy house wears a frosty fringe of icicles along its roof, and a wisp of smoke rises from the chimney. It is built from friendly shapes: a box for the walls, a triangle for the roof, a rectangle for the chimney, a circle for the window and an arch for the door. The icicles are just skinny drops, so they are easier than they look.

Step 1: The house walls
Draw the left wall, the bottom, and the right wall of the house as one line shaped like a box with softly rounded bottom corners. Leave the top open for now, because the roof will sit over it.
Step 2: The big roof
Start at the top of the left wall and draw a slanted line up to a point in the middle, then down the other side to the top of the right wall. Let the roof stick out past the walls on both sides, and curl each end into a little loop.
Step 3: The chimney
On the right side of the roof, draw a tall, skinny rectangle with no bottom line. Let its two sides touch the sloping roof line so it looks like it is standing on the roof.
Step 4: The bumpy roof edge
Draw a wavy line of little hills across the walls, just under the roof, from the left wall to the right wall. This is the icy edge where the icicles will hang.
Step 5: The icicles
Hang long, pointy drops from the dips in the wavy line. Start each one wide at the top and squeeze it down to a point, like a skinny letter V with a round tip.
Step 6: The round window
Near the bottom left of the house, draw a small circle. Then add a plus sign inside it to make four little window panes.
Step 7: The front door
On the bottom right, draw a door shaped like an upside-down U. Let both sides reach down to the bottom line of the house.
Step 8: Doorknob and smoke
Add a tiny dot on the door for a doorknob. Then draw a wiggly line floating up above the chimney for smoke.
All done!
Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a house with icicles
- Draw the roof wider than the walls so it sticks out on both sides. That little overhang makes it look like a real roof with room for icicles.
- The icicles are the trickiest part, so make the first one and then vary the next ones. Some long and some short looks more natural than a perfect row.
- Draw the window and the door after the icicles, and let the door's sides touch the bottom line so it looks like it is standing on the ground.

How to color your house with icicles drawing
Try pale blues and silvery whites for the icicles and a warm red or brown for the roof so they stand out. For a creative twist, color the window yellow as if the lights are on inside, and add falling snow dots around the house.
House with icicles fun fact for kids
Icicles form when snow on a roof melts a little in the sun or from heat inside the house, and then the water drips and freezes again before it falls. They grow longer as more drops freeze onto the tip.
Questions about drawing a house with icicles
What shapes do I need to draw a house with icicles?
You need a box for the walls, a big triangle for the roof, a tall rectangle for the chimney, a circle for the window and an arch for the door. The icicles are long, pointy drops that hang from a wavy line.
How do I make my icicles look pointy and not round?
Start each icicle wide at the top and slowly squeeze the two sides together as you go down. Finish with a small point at the bottom, and keep the sides curving gently rather than perfectly straight.
How do I make my house look cozier?
