Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The top edge
Draw the curved top edge of a wide, flat oval near the top of your page. Add a short curved line inside each end, then bring each end line down a little to start the sides.
Step 3: The sides of the stack
From each end of the top edge, draw a puffy, bumpy line going down on the left and on the right. Keep both sides about the same distance apart so the stack looks even.
Step 4: The layer lines
Draw three gently curved lines across the stack, from the left side to the right side. They should bend downward in the middle like smiles and split the stack into pancakes.
Step 5: The bottom edge
Close the stack by drawing a long, curved line along the bottom, joining the left and right sides. This makes the last pancake round.
Step 6: The plate
Draw a big, wide oval under the stack, like a flat dish. The back of the oval hides behind the bottom pancake, so start and stop your line where the pancake touches the plate.
Step 7: The syrup
On the top pancake, draw a wavy puddle of syrup that starts at the left and bumps along the top. Finish with three rounded drips hanging down the front, with the right drip a little longer.
Step 8: The pat of butter
In the middle of the syrup, draw a small rounded rectangle. Add a short straight line across the inside to make a little block of butter.
Step 9: The happy face
On the second pancake from the bottom, draw two small round dots for eyes. Between them and a little lower, add a tiny curved smile.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing pancakes
- Draw the three layer lines so they curve the same way, like gentle smiles. If one bends the other way, the stack will look wobbly.
- The syrup is the trickiest part. Go slowly and make each drip a rounded U shape, with space between the drips.
- Put the face on the second pancake from the bottom and keep the dots the same size. Draw the smile small, so it stays sweet and simple.

How to color your pancakes drawing
Color the pancakes golden brown and the syrup a deep amber, with a pale yellow pat of butter. For a creative twist, give each pancake a different flavor color, like blueberry blue or strawberry pink.
