Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Top and bottom of head
Draw a curved line across the top for the top of the head, and another curved line near the middle for the chin. Leave a gap on each side, because the ears will fill them in later.
Step 3: The round body
Under the chin, draw a curved line down on the left and another on the right to make the sides of a round body. Add a tiny flat line at the very bottom, in the middle.
Step 4: Floppy ears
On each side of the head, draw a tall oval that hangs down. Let each oval touch the head where the gap was, so the ears look attached.
Step 5: Two round eyes
Draw one small dot on each side of the face, a little below the top of the head. Fill them in so they are nice and dark.
Step 6: Muzzle, nose and mouth
Draw a wide oval in the middle of the face for the muzzle. Inside it, draw a small oval nose at the top, then a short line down and a little curvy smile underneath.
Step 7: The big heart
On the tummy, draw two bumps side by side with a dip in the middle. Then bring both sides down and meet in a point near the bottom of the body.
Step 8: Little paws
Draw a small rounded loop on each side of the heart, near the top, like the puppy is holding it. Let each loop touch the edge of the heart and the body.
Step 9: Two sitting feet
At the bottom, draw a flat oval on the left and another on the right. They sit on the ground and touch the bottom of the body.
Step 10: A curly tail
On the right side, start at the right foot and draw a short line out to the side. Then curl it up into a little hook, like the end of a candy cane.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Valentine puppy
- Start by drawing the head and body as light guide ovals. If they look good, trace over them with a darker line.
- The heart is the trickiest part. Start with the two bumps at the top, then draw the point at the bottom, and it will line up better.
- Draw the paws as small loops on each side of the heart, so it looks like the puppy is really holding it.

Questions about drawing a Valentine puppy
What shapes do I need to draw a Valentine puppy?
You need curved lines for the head and body, ovals for the ears, muzzle and feet, and small loops for the paws. The heart is the only special shape, made from two bumps and a point.
How do I make my puppy look cuter?
Keep the eyes small and far apart, and make the ears big and floppy. A little curvy smile and a curly tail add extra charm.
How do I draw a heart that looks even on both sides?
Draw a light line down the middle first, then make each bump the same size on either side. Both sides should meet at the point at the bottom.
