How to draw a dartboard step by step

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The outer ring

Start with a big circle, nice and round, in the middle of your page. Lightly sketch it first, then go over it with a steady line.

  3. Step 3: The second ring

Inside the big circle, draw a smaller circle. Keep the gap between the two circles about the same all the way around.

  4. Step 4: The third ring

Draw one more circle inside your rings, leaving the same gap again. Now your board looks like a target with rings inside rings.

  5. Step 5: Straight spokes

Draw a line straight up and down and one straight across, like a plus sign. Start each line at the outer edge and stop just before the center, leaving a small gap in the middle.

  6. Step 6: Bullseye, diagonals, first dart

Draw a small circle right in the middle for the bullseye. Add four slanted lines from the bullseye out to the second ring, halfway between the plus sign lines, to make an X. Then at the top right, draw a slim dart slanting toward the center, with a pointy tip pointing into the board.

  7. Step 7: The second dart

At the top left, draw another slim dart, pointing into the board toward the center. Make a pointy tip at one end and a slightly wider back end, like the first dart.

  8. Step 8: Dart flights

At the back end of each dart, draw two leaf shapes that point away from each other, like little wings. Each leaf is a pointy oval joined to the dart at one end.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dartboard

  • Draw the outer circle lightly first. If it looks wobbly, erase and try again, because every other ring follows its shape.
  • Make the gap between rings about one finger wide so the rings look even. Draw the outer ring first, then work inward.
  • The dart flights are the trickiest part. Think of each one as a leaf and draw a curved line out and back to a point.

Questions about drawing a dartboard

What shapes do I need to draw a dartboard?

You need circles of different sizes, straight lines for the spokes, and slim slanted shapes for the darts. The dart flights are leaf shapes.

How do I draw circles that look round?

Practice a few circles in the air first, then draw them lightly with a pencil. You can also trace the bottom of a cup or lid for the outer ring.

How do I make my dartboard look like the darts are stuck in it?

Draw the dart tips pointing into the board near the top corners. Have the flights stick out past the edge of the board so they look like they are poking out.
