How to draw a carnotaurus step by step

How to Draw a Carnotaurus · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Top of the head

Start at the left side of the head and draw a big curve up and over the top, like the top of a round head. Finish with a little upward flick at the right end.

  3. Step 3: Back, tail and feet

From the flick on top, draw a pointy horn, then curve the back line down and out to the right and finish with a tail that swoops to a rounded tip. Then draw the bottom with two little feet and bring the left side of the body up to meet the head.

  4. Step 4: Second horn

Draw a small pointed bump with a curved top on the left side of the head. It matches the other horn on the right.

  5. Step 5: Little arm and belly

Draw a small curved flap on the left side of the body for the tiny arm. Then add a small smile-shaped curve in the middle of the tummy.

  6. Step 6: Sweet face

Draw two round dots for the eyes, with space between them. Add a tiny wavy smile in the middle between the eyes.

  7. Step 7: Top back spikes

Along the upper back, draw a row of three small rounded spikes. Each one starts on the back line, bumps out to the right, and curves back in.

  8. Step 8: Lower back spikes

Keep going down the back with two more small curved spikes, getting smaller as you near the tail. Finish with a tiny bump near the base of the tail.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a carnotaurus

  • Draw the light oval first, so the head, body and tail line up and the dinosaur does not lean.
  • The back spikes are the trickiest part. Make them all the same rounded shape, but a bit smaller each time as you go down the back.
  • Keep the eyes far apart and the smile small and low. That is what gives this dino its sweet face.

Try a soft green or orange body with a lighter tummy, and give the horns and spikes a bright color like purple. For a creative twist, color the spikes in rainbow order, one color per spike.

Carnotaurus fun fact for kids

Carnotaurus means "meat-eating bull" because it had two short horns above its eyes. It also had very tiny arms compared to its big body.
