How to Draw a Waffle (Easy Step by Step)
A waffle is a fun first food to draw because it is mostly a circle and a bunch of straight lines. This one has a pat of butter on top, two little strawberries, and a smiling face. If you can draw a circle, a rounded rectangle and a heart shape, you can draw all of it.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Big round waffle
Draw a big circle, a little taller than it is wide. Leave a small gap at the top, because the butter will sit there.
Step 3: Butter and berry tops
At the gap, draw a wide, soft rounded rectangle for the pat of butter, with a smaller rounded bump on top and a gently curved bottom edge resting on the waffle. Then add a tiny leafy cap with a few seed dots floating on each side of the butter.
Step 4: Two strawberries
Around each leafy cap and its seed dots, draw a small heart-shaped strawberry with the pointy tip facing down. Put one on each side of the butter.
Step 5: Long side-to-side lines
Draw three straight lines across the waffle from one side of the circle to the other. Put one high, one in the middle and one low.
Step 6: Two side up-and-down lines
Draw one straight line going up and down near the left side and one near the right side. Start each just above the top long line and end just below the low long line.
Step 7: Middle up-and-down lines
Draw three straight lines going down from under the butter, stopping just below the middle long line. Then draw one short line at the bottom center, from the low long line down to the edge of the circle.
Step 8: Face and short lines
Draw two small dots for eyes and a little smile curve between them. Then add a short line on each side of the face, starting at the edge of the waffle, and two short up-and-down lines at the bottom, one on each side of the center line.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a waffle
- Draw the big circle lightly first, then trace over it. If one side looks flat, just erase and round it out again.
- Use the edge of a ruler or a book for the straight lines, and space them evenly. The trickiest part is stopping the middle lines before they touch the face.
- Keep the face small and low in the center. Make the two eyes the same size, and draw the smile as a tiny curve.

How to color your waffle drawing
Color the waffle golden brown, the butter pale yellow and the strawberries red with green tops. For a creative twist, color the little squares in rainbow colors.
Waffle fun fact for kids
The word waffle comes from the Dutch word wafel. The grid of squares on a waffle iron is what makes the pockets in a waffle.
