How to Draw a Fire Truck (Easy Step by Step)
A fire truck is a fun first vehicle to draw because it is made almost entirely of rectangles and circles. You will build a long body, a cab, two round wheels, a ladder, and a small siren on top. Once you know these shapes, you can make a fire truck of your own.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Body outline
Draw a long line across for the flat top of the truck body. At its left end, curve the corner and go straight down, then curve again and draw a short line to the right along the bottom. Leave the right side open for now.
Step 3: The cab
At the right end of the body, draw a straight line going down. Starting at its top, curve over the top of the cab, slope the line down to the front, then curve around the corner and draw a short line to the left along the bottom.
Step 4: The bottom line
Draw one straight line along the bottom, filling the gap between the body's short bottom line and the cab's short bottom line. Now the bottom of the truck is one long flat line.
Step 5: The wheels
Draw two big circles, one near the back and one near the front, so the bottom line runs across the upper part of each circle. Then draw a small circle in the middle of each one.
Step 6: Windows
On the side of the body, draw a rounded square. Then draw a window on the cab with a flat bottom and a slanted right side, like a squished rectangle.
Step 7: Ladder rails
Above the truck body, draw two long straight lines, one on top of the other, with rounded ends. These are the two sides of the ladder.
Step 8: Rungs, siren, hose reel
Draw four short up-and-down lines across the two ladder lines for rungs. The two outer ones reach down to the top of the truck. Then draw a small half circle on top of the cab for the siren, and a big circle on the side of the body with a smaller circle inside it.
Step 9: The headlight
Near the front of the cab, draw a small round dot for the headlight.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a fire truck
- Draw the long body first and keep its top edge flat, then the ladder will sit above it neatly.
- For the wheels, trace around a coin or a small cup to get nice round circles, then add the smaller circle in the middle.
- Draw the two ladder lines first and the rungs after. Then the rungs will match up between the two lines.

Color the truck bright red, the windows light blue, and the wheels dark gray. For a creative twist, make the siren yellow and the headlight orange, or draw flames coming out of a building next to the truck.
Fire truck fun fact for kids
Before engines had motors, fire pumps were pulled by hand or by horses. Steam-powered fire engines pulled by horses were common in the 1800s.
Questions about drawing a fire truck
What shapes do I need to draw a fire truck?
You need rounded rectangles for the body, cab and windows, circles for the wheels and the hose reel, and straight lines for the ladder. The siren on top is just a small half circle.
How do I draw a fire truck ladder?
Start with two long lines, one above the other. Then add short up-and-down lines across them, spaced evenly, like the rungs on a real ladder.
How do I make my fire truck look more real?
Add the round hose reel on the side and a siren on top of the cab. Coloring the truck bright red also helps people know it is a fire truck right away.
