How to Draw a Lighthouse (Easy Step by Step)
A lighthouse is a fun thing to draw because it is built from simple shapes you already know: a tall cone, a flat rectangle, a dome, and a few circles. Once the tower is in place, the light beams and waves make it feel like a real night at the sea.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The tower sides
Draw two slanted lines that start near the top and spread wider toward the bottom, like the sides of a tall cone with the top cut off. Leave the top and bottom open for now.
Step 3: The rocky island
At the bottom of the tower, draw a long, flat, rounded shape like a squished oval. Make the top of it a straight line where the tower sits.
Step 4: The balcony
At the top of the tower, draw a thin, flat rectangle with rounded corners, a little wider than the tower top. Draw a thin line inside it for the railing.
Step 5: The lamp room
On top of the balcony, draw a small tall shape with straight sides and a round dome on top, like a tunnel. Add a short line across the middle and one line straight down the center for the window frame.
Step 6: Stripes and window
Draw two gently curved lines across the tower to make the stripes. Then draw a small circle with a smaller circle inside it for the round window near the top of the tower.
Step 7: The door
At the bottom of the tower, draw a small door shaped like an arch: two short straight sides with a rounded top. Let the sides touch the island.
Step 8: Beams of light
Draw four straight lines that point outward from the lamp room, two on each side. Add one short line straight up above the dome.
Step 9: Rocks and waves
Draw two small curved smiles on the island for rock cracks. Then draw a short wiggly wave line in the water at each bottom corner.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a lighthouse
- Draw the two sides of the tower so they lean in toward each other at the top. If they end up straight, the tower will look like a box.
- Make the stripes curve down in the middle, like a gentle smile. Curved lines make the tower look round instead of flat.
- Draw the light beams so they point away from the lamp room. Keep them about the same length on each side so the lighthouse looks balanced.

How to color your lighthouse drawing
Color the stripes red and white, the dome and balcony a dark color, and the beams bright yellow. For a creative twist, make it a night scene with a dark blue sky and glowing yellow light.
Lighthouse fun fact for kids
Lighthouses use a special lens that bends the lamp's light into a strong beam. The beam can be seen from many miles away, so ships know where the rocky shore is.
Questions about drawing a lighthouse
What shapes do I need to draw a lighthouse?
You need a tall cone for the tower, a thin rounded rectangle for the balcony, a dome for the lamp room, and a small circle for the window. A squished oval makes the rock.
How do I make the lighthouse tower look tall?
Make the top of the tower narrow and the bottom much wider, and keep the sides long and straight. A small balcony and a wide island at the bottom make the tower seem taller.
How do I draw the light beams?
Draw straight lines that start near the lamp room and go outward and a little bit up or down. Draw two on each side, plus a short one above the dome.
