How to Draw a Guitar (Easy Step by Step)
A guitar is fun to draw because it is made from simple shapes you already know: a peanut-shaped body, a circle, a long skinny neck and a little round head. Once you put those shapes together, you have an instrument that looks ready to play.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The guitar body
Draw a big peanut shape, wide at the bottom and a bit smaller at the top, with one smooth line. Make it curve in a little at the waist in the middle.
Step 3: The sound hole
Draw a small circle in the upper part of the body. Make it nice and round, like a donut hole.
Step 4: The long neck
Start at the top of the body and draw two long lines going up and to the right, side by side. Keep them close together so they make a long skinny road.
Step 5: Top of the headstock
Above the neck, draw a curved line like the top of a small circle. It will become the rounded head of the guitar.
Step 6: Frets and tuning pegs
Draw short straight lines across the neck, like the rungs of a ladder. Then finish the head with its bottom edge and add tiny sticks poking out from its sides.
Step 7: The bridge
Near the bottom of the body, draw a long skinny shape that tilts along with the guitar. Start with its bottom edge and one short side line.
Step 8: The strings
Draw a few straight lines side by side, going from the bridge up toward the sound hole. Keep them the same distance apart, like the teeth of a comb.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a guitar
- Draw the body first and make it big. The neck and head are much easier to fit on once the body is in place.
- The sound hole looks best when it is a nice round circle. Try tracing around a coin or a bottle cap lightly in pencil first.
- Keep the two neck lines close to parallel. Draw the first line, then copy its slant for the second one so the neck does not get wider or narrower.

How to color your guitar drawing
Color the body a warm wood brown or orange and make the neck a darker brown, with a black sound hole. For a creative twist, give your guitar a rainbow body or cover it in stickers and stars.
Guitar fun fact for kids
Most acoustic guitars have six strings, while the ukulele, a small cousin of the guitar, usually has four.
Questions about drawing a guitar
What shapes do I need to draw a guitar?
You need a peanut shape for the body, a circle for the sound hole, two long lines for the neck and a small round shape for the head. A few short straight lines make the frets, and a few longer ones make the strings.
How do I make my guitar look more real?
Add the little ladder-like lines on the neck and the tiny pegs on the head. Drawing the strings straight and evenly spaced also makes it look like it could really be played.
How can I draw a guitar that is not crooked?
Start with a light pencil line from the bottom of the body up to the top of the head. Build the body, neck and head along that line so everything stays lined up.
