  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Head and hat top

Start low on the left side and draw a curve up and around for the left side of the head. Keep going over the top as a rounded cap with a little bump in the middle for the pom-pom, then curve down the right side and stop. Leave the bottom of the head open.

  3. Step 3: Hat stripes

Draw two curved lines across the hat, one just above the other, from one side of the cap to the other. They make a stripe around the hat.

  4. Step 4: Face and scarf

Add two small dots for eyes and a little smile curve between them. Under the chin, draw a curved line across, with a short line bending down at each end to make a puffy scarf.

  5. Step 5: Stretched-out arms

Draw one long curve starting at a rounded hand on the left, dipping under the scarf and rising to a rounded hand on the right. Then draw a lower line under each arm, going back toward the middle. The right one bends down a little to start the body.

  6. Step 6: Body and legs

Draw the two sides of the body going down from the arms. Then add two legs spreading out like an upside-down V, each with a round foot at the end.

  7. Step 7: Snowy wings

On each side, start above the arm and draw a few bumpy little scallops to look like fluffy snow. Then sweep a big smooth curve out and down around the arm, ending near the leg.

  8. Step 8: Pom-pom fluff

Add two tiny short lines on the top of the pom-pom to make it look fuzzy and soft.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid making a snow angel

  • Make the head a little bigger than you think you need, so the hat, face and scarf all fit with room to spare.
  • The arms are the trickiest part. Make both arms the same length by putting the two hands at the same height.
  • For the snowy wings, make small bumps like a cloud along the top edge, and keep the long lower curve smooth.
