Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Two guide lines
Inside the big oval, draw one short wavy line near the top and one longer straight line across the lower part. These two lines mark where dad's top and his belt will go.
Step 3: Dad's body outline
Draw dad's body around the guide lines. Curve a line down from the top right for his shoulder, curve a short line down on the left, and finish with a boxy bottom that joins both sides under the straight line.
Step 4: The baby's head
Above dad, draw the top of the baby's head as a round arch. Add a tiny loop at the very top for a curl of hair.
Step 5: Baby's face and collar
Give the baby two dot eyes and a small smile inside the head. Under the chin, draw a wide wavy collar with a little ear-like loop on each side.
Step 6: Dad's raised arms
Draw two long, skinny leaf-shaped arms. Each one starts near the baby's collar and slants down and out to dad's shoulder.
Step 7: Dad's hands
At each side of dad's body, draw a tall oval for a hand. Tuck each one next to his belt line, under the end of the arm.
Step 8: Dad's happy face
Add two round dots for eyes in the middle of dad's body and a curved smile below them. Then draw a few small curved lines along his belt.
Step 9: Legs
Under the bottom of the body, draw three short straight lines hanging down: one on the left, one on the right and a thicker one in the middle.
Step 10: Big shoes
Finish with two wide ovals at the bottom for dad's shoes. Draw them side by side so they touch the ends of his legs.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a dad
- Draw the two guide lines first. They show you how tall dad's body will be before you add the outline.
- The long arms are the trickiest part. Start each one near the baby's collar, draw one curve down and out, then a second curve back, like a leaf.
- Keep the dot eyes at the same height on both faces and curve both smiles the same way so they look friendly.

How to color your dad drawing
Try a bright blue or green shirt for dad, warm peach for the skin and a bold color for the shoes. For a creative twist, give the baby a rainbow-striped outfit so it stands out from dad.
Dad fun fact for kids
Babies are born with about 300 bones, but many of them join together as they grow, so grown-ups end up with 206.
Questions about drawing a dad
What shapes do I need to draw a dad?
You need mostly ovals, circles and a boxy body. Use long thin ovals for the arms, tall ovals for the hands and wide ovals for the shoes.
How do I draw a baby lifted up by dad?
Draw dad's body first, then add the baby's round head above it with a collar underneath. Long arms that slant from the baby's collar down to dad's shoulders make it look like dad is holding the baby up.
How do I make my dad drawing look happier?
Draw round dot eyes and a curved smile on both faces. Making the smile wide and curving it up at the ends helps a lot.
