  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The big round head

Draw a big circle near the top left of your page for the head. Leave a little gap at the bottom where the neck will meet the body.

  3. Step 3: The body

Under the head, draw a rounded rectangle for the body. Start at one side of the gap in the head and let the top line reach across to the other side.

  4. Step 4: Legs and shoes

Draw two very short lines down from the bottom of the body. At the end of each one, draw a flat oval for a shoe.

  5. Step 5: Face and scissors

Add two round dots for eyes and a small curvy smile in the middle of the face. Then, on the left side, draw a pair of scissors with two pointed blades that cross and a small loop handle at the bottom.

  6. Step 6: Tape and bow

On the right side of the body, draw a circle with a smaller circle inside it for the roll of tape. Add a little curved line under it for the hand holding it and a wiggly tail of tape trailing off to the right. Then draw two small loops side by side with a tiny knot between them for a bow, off to the right.

  7. Step 7: The gift box

At the bottom right, draw a wide, flat rectangle for the lid. Under it, draw a taller rectangle for the box, a little narrower than the lid, so the bow sits on top of the lid.

  8. Step 8: The ribbon

Draw one straight line from the middle of the bow down the front of the box to the bottom. It splits the box into two sides.

  9. Step 9: Stripes on the shirt

Draw two gently curved lines across the body, one near the middle and one lower down. Keep them about the same shape so the shirt looks striped.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid wrapping a present

  • Draw the head circle first and take your time. A round head makes the whole kid look friendly.
  • The scissors are the trickiest part. Draw two pointed blades that cross in the middle, then add the small loop handle at the bottom.
  • Make the gift lid a little wider than the box under it, so it looks like a real lid sitting on top.
