Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Bread triangles
Draw a big triangle with a pointy top and a flat bottom. Then draw a smaller triangle inside it, leaving a little space around it for the crust.
Step 3: The back slice
Draw a long, skinny rectangle with rounded corners along the right side of the big triangle. It looks like another slice of bread peeking out from behind.
Step 4: The smiley face
Inside the small triangle, draw two little dots for eyes. Under them, draw a small curved smile.
Step 5: The bottom bun
Near the bottom of your page, draw a wide, flat pill shape lying down. This is the bun that holds everything up.
Step 6: The sandwich sides
Draw a flat line across the bottom of the triangle, a little wider than the triangle. Then draw a straight line down from each end to the bun to make the sides of the sandwich.
Step 7: The wavy lettuce
Just under the flat line, draw a bumpy, wavy line from one side to the other. It looks like a row of little hills.
Step 8: The cheese slice
Draw a straight line across the middle, from the left side to the right side. Near the right end, make the line dip down into a small pointy V, then bring it back up.
Step 9: The tomato slices
In the gap between the cheese line and the bun, draw three small ovals in a row. Space them evenly.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a sandwich
- Draw the big triangle first and the small triangle second. Keep the same gap on all sides so the crust looks even.
- The wavy lettuce line is the trickiest part. Make little humps all the same size, like a row of small hills, and go slowly.
- Draw the three tomato ovals the same size and space them evenly. Try drawing the middle one first, then the left and right.

Try golden brown for the bread, green for the lettuce, yellow for the cheese and red for the tomatoes. The bun at the bottom can be golden brown too.
Sandwich fun fact for kids
The sandwich is named after John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, an English nobleman who lived from 1718 to 1792.
