Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head and hat outline
Draw a round head shape with a flat top, then a tall dome above it for the hat that curls over at the tip on the right. Draw a straight line across where the dome meets the head.
Step 3: Hat band and pom-pom
Draw a second straight line just above the first one to make the long fluffy band across the hat. Add a small circle at the curled tip of the hat for the pom-pom.
Step 4: Face and body lines
Draw two dots for eyes and a little curved smile. Under the chin, add short lines for the neck and shoulders, a small arch and a short straight line in the middle, and a few short marks lower down to begin the body and box.
Step 5: The arms
Draw a curved arm on each side of the body, starting at the shoulder and bending down and in toward the middle.
Step 6: Lid, box and hands
Draw a long flat rectangle across the box for the lid, and a straight line along the bottom of the box. Add a small circle at each bottom corner for the hands holding the box.
Step 7: The bow
On top of the lid, draw two loops like rabbit ears that meet in the middle. Put a small circle where they join for the knot.
Step 8: Two shoes
Under the box, draw two flat ovals side by side for the shoes.
Step 9: Two little stars
Draw a small star on the left of the kid, up high near the hat. Draw another small star on the right, lower down by the box.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with a present
- Draw the head and hat dome first, then add the band lines so they run straight across where the dome meets the head.
- Take your time on the arms. Curve each one from the shoulder down and in toward the box.
- Draw the lid as a long flat rectangle, then add the line along the bottom so the box looks even.
- Make the bow loops the same size on both sides, and finish with a small circle for the knot.

Kid with a present fun fact for kids
The story goes that in 1917 the Hall brothers, who ran a card shop in Kansas City, ran out of plain tissue paper at holiday time. They sold fancy printed envelope-lining paper as gift wrap instead, and it sold out.
