Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head curve
Start near the top left of the guide oval and draw a smooth curve down the left side and along the bottom. Stop near the lower right, leaving the top open for the hat.
Step 3: Hat dome and brim
Above the head, draw a dome like half a circle with a flat bottom. Then draw a long straight line with rounded ends across the top of the head for the bottom edge of the hat.
Step 4: Pom-pom, stripes, ears
Add a small ring on top of the dome for the pom-pom, and draw three short lines down the dome for the knit stripes. Close the brim into a long rounded rectangle, draw a small curved ear on each side of the head, and finish the right side of the head with a short curve.
Step 5: Eyes, nose, tooth
Draw two small dots for eyes, then a rounded nose below and between them. Add a little rounded tooth hanging under the nose and a short curved cheek line on the left side.
Step 6: The tummy arch
Under the head, draw a small curved arch like the top of a circle for the squirrel's tummy.
Step 7: The bushy tail
Start beside the right ear and draw a curl that sweeps out to a point, then curve down along the side of the head. Draw a big swoosh down and around to the bottom, and a second curve inside it to make the tail fat.
Step 8: Little paws
At each end of the arch, draw a small bumpy shape for a paw. Add a short line down from each paw, and a tiny dash at the bottom middle.
Step 9: The acorn
Between the paws, draw a curved cap like a little hill. Add a wavy band under it, then draw a U shape below for the bottom of the acorn.
Step 10: Two oval feet
At the bottom, draw two flat ovals side by side for the feet, one on each side of the acorn.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Christmas squirrel
- Draw the head curve first and make it wide. The hat and ears sit around it, so a good head makes everything else fit.
- The tail is the trickiest part. Draw the outer swoosh first, then add the inner curve so both lines follow the same direction.
- Keep the acorn small and tucked between the paws. Draw the cap, then the wavy band, then the U shape below.

Christmas squirrel fun fact for kids
Squirrels bury many acorns and nuts each fall, and they find lots of them again by remembering landmarks and by smell. The ones they forget can grow into new trees.
