How to draw an onion step by step

How to Draw an Onion · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The onion bulb

Draw a big round bulb that is wide at the bottom, with the sides curving in toward the top. Stop the two sides at points close together, leaving a small gap, and finish the bottom with a gently curved line.

  3. Step 3: The sprout top

Draw a tiny curved line across the gap at the top to close the neck. Then draw two thin lines going up from it that lean away from each other, like a little V.

  4. Step 4: Curved side lines

Inside the bulb, draw two long curved lines that start near the neck and bend down to the bottom. They should follow the shape of the bulb and leave room in the middle for a face.

  5. Step 5: The happy face

In the middle section, draw two small round dots for eyes. Halfway between them and a little lower, draw a tiny smile that curves up like a little bowl.

  6. Step 6: Little roots

Under the bulb, draw three short lines: a straight one in the middle and one on each side that slants outward.

  7. Step 7: The onion slice

Off to the side, draw a wide oval, like a squashed circle. Then draw a smaller oval inside it to show a ring of a sliced onion.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an onion

  • Draw the big bulb slowly, so both sides curve in toward the top by the same amount.
  • Make the two curved lines inside the onion match each other, bending the same amount on the left and right.
  • Draw the slice as ovals, not circles, and keep the inner oval centered so the ring looks even.

Questions about drawing an onion

What shapes do I need to draw an onion?

Start with a round bulb that narrows at the top, then add two sprouts, two curved lines for the sides, two dots and a curve for the face, and three short lines for the roots. The slice is two ovals, one inside the other.

How do I make my onion look cuter?

Keep the face low in the middle and make the eyes small and wide apart. A tiny smile makes it look happy.

How do I draw the onion slice?

Draw a wide oval first, then a smaller oval inside it with the same tilt. Leaving an even gap between the two makes it look like an onion ring.
