How to Draw a Candle (Easy Step by Step)
A candle with a smiling face is a cheerful drawing, and it is built from simple shapes: a tall rounded body, a teardrop for the flame, and a wide oval for the plate. The dripping wax and the little holder make it look like a real candle sitting on a plate.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The candle body
Draw a tall shape with a rounded top edge and two straight sides going down. At the bottom, curve each side inward a little, and leave the bottom open.
Step 3: Wax edge and drips
Draw a wavy line across the candle just below the top edge for the melted wax. Then add three drips hanging down from it, each shaped like an upside-down U, with the one on the right longer than the others.
Step 4: Holder rim and dots
Near the bottom of the candle, draw a curved line across like a smile to make the rim of the holder. Add a short curve at its right end, then draw three tiny dots in a small triangle below it.
Step 5: The handle
On the right side of the holder, draw a curved line that starts at the holder, bends up and out, and curls back down, like the handle of a little cup.
Step 6: The plate
Draw a wide, flat oval under the holder for the plate. Make its top edge pass across the bottom of the holder and circle around the three dots.
Step 7: Wick and flame
Draw a tiny short line standing up from the top of the candle for the wick. Then draw a big teardrop with a pointy top above it, and a smaller teardrop inside.
Step 8: The sweet face
On the lower part of the candle, draw two small round dots for eyes. Draw a small curved smile between them, a little lower down.
Step 9: Plate decorations
On the plate, draw a small curly scroll shape on the left and another on the right of the three dots. Make each one a little loop with wiggly edges.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a candle
- Draw the flame as a teardrop with a pointy top first, then add the smaller teardrop inside it so the two shapes match.
- Start each wax drip at the wavy line and let it hang straight down. Make them different lengths so they look natural.
- Keep the plate oval wide and flat. Let its top edge cross the bottom of the holder so the candle looks like it is sitting on it.
