Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Head and right side
Start at the left cheek and draw up and over the top of the head, with a little dip in the middle between two big round ears. Then wiggle down the right side with small bumps and finish with a small curl at the bottom for the right foot.
Step 3: The left side
Start under the left cheek and draw a long curve down the left side of the body. Finish with a small rounded bend at the bottom for the left foot.
Step 4: The tail
Draw a small leaf shape sticking out on the left side of the body. Let it touch the body at both ends.
Step 5: Feet and gap
Draw a rounded curve along the bottom for the feet, then a little square-ish arch going up between the legs. Make the top of the arch flat.
Step 6: Leg line and toes
Draw a short slanted line inside the left leg to show where the leg is. Then add a tiny wavy line between the feet for the toes.
Step 7: The eyes
Draw two round dots for eyes. Keep them the same height, with a good gap between them, in the upper part of the head.
Step 8: Nose and smile
Draw a short line going down from the middle between the eyes. Then draw two small curves, one on each side of its bottom, to make a happy smile.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing an African wild dog
- Draw the head wide so the two ears have room on top.
- The wavy right side is tricky, so go slowly and make small bumps instead of one long line.
- Draw both eyes at the same height, then put the nose line in the middle between them so the face stays balanced.
