How to draw an angry face step by step

How to Draw an Angry Face · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: The round face

Draw a big circle in the middle of your page. Make it as round as you can, and leave some room above it for two little clouds.

  3. Step 3: Angry eyebrows

Draw two short slanted lines inside the top of the face. Each one starts high near the edge of the face and slants down toward the middle, with a small gap between them.

  4. Step 4: Tiny squinty eyes

Under each eyebrow, draw a tiny curved dash for an eye. Keep them small and low so the face looks grumpy and squinty.

  5. Step 5: Zigzag mouth

Near the bottom of the face, draw a zigzag line that goes up, down, up, down, up, down, like a row of three mountain tips. Keep the points about the same size.

  6. Step 6: Left cloud

Above the face on the left, draw a small cloud outline. Start with a few round bumps along the top and close the shape with a curved line along the bottom.

  7. Step 7: Right cloud

Above the face on the right, draw a second small cloud just like the first one. Keep the two clouds about the same size and height.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Finished your angry face? Keep the pencils out and learn how to draw a surprised face or how to draw a sleepy face next.

Tips for drawing an angry face

  • Draw the circle slowly. If it comes out a bit wobbly, that is fine, or you can turn your paper as you draw the curve.
  • Make both eyebrows slant the same amount, like the two sides of a V, so the face looks grumpy instead of silly.
  • Keep the eyes small and close under the eyebrows. Tiny eyes make the face look more cross.
  • Draw the clouds about the same size so they look like a matching pair.

The word angry comes from an old Norse word, angr, which meant grief or trouble. Over hundreds of years it came to mean the cross feeling we call anger today.
