Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 3 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The front roll
Draw a wide, flat oval for the top of the big roll. Then draw two straight lines down from its sides and connect them with a curved bottom, like a short can.
Step 3: The rice edge
Draw a gentle smile-shaped curve across the front, starting and ending where the side lines meet the top oval. This shows where the top turns into the side.
Step 4: Rings on top
Inside the top oval, draw a big oval ring, then a smaller oval ring in the middle. Leave a little space between them, like a target.
Step 5: Face and sesame seeds
Add two round dots for cheeks and a small curved smile between them on the front. Then dot little sesame seeds in a circle between the two rings.
Step 6: The top-left roll
Draw a second roll up in the left corner with a top oval, two side lines and a curved bottom. Add a smile-shaped curve across the front.
Step 7: Left roll details
Draw two oval rings inside its top, one inside the other. Dot a few tiny seeds around the rings and add a couple of short little lines across the rings.
Step 8: The top-right roll
Draw a third roll in the right corner the same way: top oval, side lines, curved bottom, and a smile-shaped curve across the front.
Step 9: Right roll and chopsticks
Add two oval rings and a few tiny seeds and short lines on top of the right roll. Finish with two long, slanted straight lines for chopsticks beside the front roll.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a sushi roll
- Draw the top ovals wide and flat, not tall. That is what makes the roll look like it is lying on a table.
- Keep the rings inside the top oval about the same distance apart, so they look like a target.
- Put the face low on the front and keep the two cheeks the same size, with the smile centered between them.

How to color your sushi roll drawing
Try white or cream rice, dark green nori around the edge and orange or pink in the middle for salmon. You can also give each roll a different filling color, like avocado green, tuna red and egg yellow.
Sushi roll fun fact for kids
Sushi rolls are wrapped in nori, a thin sheet of dried seaweed. Rolling them up with a bamboo mat helps keep the rice and fillings in a tight round shape.
