  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Trailer box outline

Start near the bottom left of the page and draw a line straight up. Curve across the top with rounded corners, then come straight down on the right side. Leave the bottom open for now.

  3. Step 3: Trailer stripes

Draw two straight lines across the trailer from the left side to the right side. Leave a gap between them so they make a stripe.

  4. Step 4: The cab

Next to the trailer, draw a smaller box for the cab where the driver sits. Start at the top, slope the line down toward the front like a ramp, then run it flat for the hood and finish with a straight bottom.

  5. Step 5: The window

Inside the top of the cab, draw a small window shaped like a rectangle with one slanted side. Match the slant of the cab's roof.

  6. Step 6: Pipe and headlight

Draw a tall, thin rectangle standing up where the cab's slope meets the hood for the exhaust pipe. Then add a tiny circle on the front of the cab for the headlight.

  7. Step 7: Trailer base and tires

Draw a flat line along the bottom of the trailer. Then draw three big circles hanging below it, side by side, for the trailer tires.

  8. Step 8: The cab tires

Under the cab, draw two more big circles for the front tires. Keep them about the same size as the trailer tires.

  9. Step 9: Hubs and hitch

Draw a small circle inside every tire for the hubs, with a tiny dot in the middle of each. Finish with a short little bar joining the trailer to the cab.

  10. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a semi truck

  • Draw the trailer first and give it plenty of room. The cab and wheels will be easier to fit in once the big box is down.
  • The wheels are the trickiest part. Trace around a coin or a bottle cap for round circles, then draw a smaller circle inside each one.
  • Try to keep the two stripes on the trailer straight and parallel. Use the edge of a ruler or a bookmark if the lines wobble.

How to color your semi truck drawing

Pick a bold color for the cab, like red or blue, and use a different color for the trailer stripes. For a creative twist, color the window light blue and the headlight yellow.

Semi truck fun fact for kids

A big semi truck can have 18 wheels, which is why people often call it an 18-wheeler. The extra wheels help spread out the heavy load so the truck can carry it safely down the road.

Questions about drawing a semi truck

What shapes do I need to draw a semi truck?

You need rectangles with rounded corners for the trailer and cab, and circles for the wheels. A tall, thin rectangle makes the exhaust pipe.

How do I make my semi truck wheels look round?

Trace a coin or lid for the outer circle, then draw a smaller circle inside it. Adding a tiny dot in the middle makes it look like a real hubcap.

How do I attach the trailer to the cab?

Draw a short little bar between the bottom of the trailer and the bottom of the cab. It works like the hitch that joins the two parts of a real truck.
