How to Draw a Cruise Ship: easy drawing guide for kids

How to Draw a Cruise Ship (Easy Step by Step)

A cruise ship looks big and fancy, but it is built from simple shapes: a bowl-shaped hull, stacked rectangles for the decks, two tall funnels and rows of small round windows. You draw it from the bottom up, so each shape sits on the one before. The wavy water at the end makes it look like it is really sailing.

How to draw a cruise ship step by step

How to Draw a Cruise Ship · tinyhandscreate.com

  1. Step 1: The ship's hull

Draw a wide shape like a bowl with a flat top. Start with a long straight line across the top, then curve the sides down and join them with a gentle curve along the bottom.

  2. Step 2: The bottom deck

Above the hull, draw a wide rectangle with softly rounded top corners. Let its sides start on the hull's straight line, a little narrower than the hull.

  3. Step 3: The middle deck

Stack a slightly smaller rounded rectangle on top of the bottom deck. Line it up in the middle so the ship starts to look like stairs.

  4. Step 4: The top deck

Add the smallest rounded rectangle on top of the middle deck. Keep it centered, like the top step of a staircase.

  5. Step 5: Two funnels

Draw two tall shapes that are narrow at the top and wider at the bottom, like upside-down buckets. Set them side by side on the top deck, leaving a gap between them.

  6. Step 6: Windows and funnel stripes

Draw a short stripe across each funnel, near the bottom. Then draw a row of small round windows on each deck and along the hull, spaced evenly.

  7. Step 7: Wavy water

Under the ship, draw a long wavy line that goes up and down like a snake. Add a second wavy line below it so the ship floats on the sea.

  8. All done!

Go over your lines with a marker, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a cruise ship

  • Make each deck a little narrower than the one below it. That is what gives the ship its stair-step shape.
  • Windows are the trickiest part. Draw a light row of dots with a pencil first, so the circles end up evenly spaced.
  • Let the funnels start right on the top deck's line, and keep them the same height so the ship looks balanced.

Cruise ship fun fact for kids

On a ship, the left side is called port and the right side is called starboard. Sailors use these words so nobody mixes up left and right.

Questions about drawing a cruise ship

What shapes do I need to draw a cruise ship?

You need rounded rectangles for the decks, a bowl-like shape for the hull, two tall funnels that are narrow at the top, and small circles for the windows. Wavy lines finish the sea.

How do I make my cruise ship look bigger?

Draw the hull long and wide, and make each deck only a little narrower than the one below. Rows of many small windows also make the ship feel large.

How do I draw straight, even windows?

Lightly mark dots in a row along each deck first, with the same gap between them. Then draw a small circle on each dot and erase any extra marks.
