  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: The back circle

Start near the top left of your paper and draw a big round curve, like a circle with a gap. Stop at the lower right, where the second circle will go, so the line does not close.

  3. Step 3: The front circle

Draw a second big circle that overlaps the lower right of the first one. Start and end it where the first curve stopped, so the front circle looks like it sits on top.

  4. Step 4: The outer ring

Inside the front circle, draw a smaller circle in the middle with an even gap all the way around. This ring is the white coconut meat.

  5. Step 5: The middle circle

Draw one more circle inside the ring, again leaving an even space around it. This is the hollow center where the coconut water lives.

  6. Step 6: A happy face

Inside the smallest circle, draw two small round dots for eyes. Under them, add a little curved smile that looks like a tiny bowl.

  7. Step 7: Dashes and dots

Inside the back circle, draw short straight dashes near the edge, each one pointing toward the center like the rays of a sun. Then add three small dots in the middle of that circle for texture.

  8. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a coconut

  • Circles are the hard part. Draw them slowly, or lightly sketch a first circle and trace over it with a darker line.
  • Draw the front circle over the back one and leave the back circle open where they meet. That small overlap is what makes the two halves look layered.
  • Keep the gap between the rings about the same all the way around. Look at the space between the lines as you draw each new ring.

How to color your coconut drawing

Try dark brown for the outer edge, bright white or cream for the ring of coconut meat, and a pale blue for the hollow middle. For a creative twist, give the back circle a sunny beach background or turn the dashes into colorful sprinkles.

Coconut fun fact for kids

Coconuts can float on ocean water for weeks or even months, so a coconut can wash up on a beach far from the tree where it grew and sprout into a new palm.

Questions about drawing a coconut

What shapes do I need to draw a coconut?

You only need circles. Draw two big overlapping circles, then two smaller circles inside the front one, plus tiny dots and short dashes for details.

How do I draw a perfect circle?

Practice drawing in the air a few times before you put the pencil down, and keep your wrist loose. You can also trace around a cup or a coin and then draw over it by hand.

How do I make my coconut look cuter?

Add a smiling face in the smallest circle with two round eyes and a small curved mouth. Placing the eyes a little wide apart makes it look extra sweet.
