How to Draw a Surfer (Easy Step by Step)
A surfer is a happy character to draw because almost everything is a simple shape. The head is a big round shape, the shirt is a box, and the surfboard is a tall skinny oval. Once you have the shapes, the flower shorts and puffy hair add lots of personality.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: Head and hair
Draw a big round shape for the head. Add a puffy, cloud-shaped line of hair across the top, with a wavy line underneath it for the hairline.
Step 3: Collar and shirt
Under the head, draw a short straight line for the neck. Hang a U-shaped collar from it, then draw the left side and the bottom of a box-shaped shirt.
Step 4: Arms and hand
Draw a long bean shape on the left side of the shirt for the arm, and add a small circle at its end for the hand. Then draw a curved line on the right side for the other arm.
Step 5: Face and shorts
Give your surfer two small dots for eyes and a little curved smile. Then draw the right side of the shirt and the shorts under it, with a small flower shape on each leg.
Step 6: Feet
Draw two flat ovals under the shorts, side by side, for the feet. Add a straight line across the bottom of the shorts and a short line down the right side to finish them.
Step 7: The surfboard
Next to your surfer, on the right, draw a tall, skinny oval as tall as the surfer. This is the surfboard.
Step 8: Stripes and hand
Draw two straight stripes down the board, near its left side. Then add a small circle on the left edge of the board for the hand that holds it.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a surfer
- Draw the surfboard last, and make it about as tall as your surfer. Start with a tall oval, then draw the stripes inside.
- Make the hair bumpy like a cloud, with little scallops along the top. The wavy hairline below it should echo the same bumps.
- Use a ruler or the edge of a book to draw the two stripes on the board so they stay straight and side by side.
