How to draw a gardener step by step

  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.

  2. Step 2: Bottom of the head

Draw a big U shape in the middle of your page for the lower part of the head. Leave the top open and leave room above it for the hat.

  3. Step 3: The wide hat

Draw a wide, flat oval across the top of the head for the brim. Then add a dome on top, a curved band around the dome, and a small loop on the left side of the band.

  4. Step 4: Eyes and smile

Add two small dots for eyes in the middle of the face. Draw a little curved smile below them.

  5. Step 5: The body

Under the head, draw a rounded rectangle for the body. Make it a little wider than the neck area.

  6. Step 6: The arms

Draw a curved line on each side of the body, starting near the shoulders and bending outward and down. These are the outsides of the arms.

  7. Step 7: Apron, hands and legs

Draw two straps going down the front of the body, a leaf shape between them, and a small pocket below. Add a small hand at the end of each arm, two short legs under the body, and a little cluster of circles beside the right hand.

  8. Step 8: Big round shoes

At the bottom of the legs, draw two wide ovals side by side for the shoes.

  9. Step 9: The watering can

Next to the left hand, draw a box shape for the can and a small handle by the hand. Add a long slanted spout going up and out to the left, with a tiny circle at the end.

  10. Step 10: Flower pot and stem

By the right hand, draw a small pot that is wider at the top. Add a stem rising from the pot up to the flower.

  11. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a gardener

  • Draw the hat brim as a wide, flat oval first and the dome on top second, so the hat stays balanced over the head.
  • The apron has the most lines. Do the two straps first, then the leaf and pocket, and take your time with each one.
  • Draw the flower circles close together so they look like one flower, then connect the stem to the pot.
