Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch these 2 ovals. They only show where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase them at the end.
Step 2: The round head
Draw a big round curve for the head, starting at the top left, swooping down and around the bottom, and ending at the top right. Leave the top open, because the hat will cover it.
Step 3: The rain hat
Across the top of the head, draw a long flat oval for the hat brim. Then add a small dome on top that sits right on the brim.
Step 4: The raincoat
Under the head, draw a curved line on the left for the back of the coat and a short slanted line on the right. Join them at the bottom with a gently wavy line.
Step 5: Coat middle line
Draw one straight line down the middle of the coat, starting under the chin and stopping at the bottom edge.
Step 6: Face and raised arm
Add two small dots for eyes and a curved smile on the face. Then, from the right side of the coat, draw a short slanted oval for the arm reaching up, with a small circle at its tip for the hand.
Step 7: Umbrella handle
Start at the hand circle and draw a long straight line going up. Under the hand, draw a short curved hook, like the letter J.
Step 8: The big umbrella
At the top of the handle, draw a wide half circle for the umbrella. Make the bottom edge a row of little bumps, then draw two lines from the top point down to the bumps.
Step 9: Boots and puddle
Under the coat, draw two short boots with rounded toes pointing outward. Draw a long, flat oval under them for a puddle.
Step 10: Falling raindrops
Around the kid, draw small oval dots for raindrops. Scatter them on both sides, away from the umbrella.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a kid with an umbrella
- Draw the umbrella after the kid, and make it wider than the hat so there is room for the handle to reach down.
- The bumpy edge of the umbrella is the trickiest part, so make a row of small hills of the same size, like waves.
- Draw the hand as a small circle first, then start the handle line at its middle so the kid really looks like they are holding it.
