How to Draw a Banana (Easy Step by Step)
A banana with a happy face is one of the easiest ways to start drawing. It is built from a long crescent, a small rounded stem, a U-shaped peel edge, and two leaf-shaped peels. Once you know these shapes, you can make your banana dance, wave, or peel itself.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The banana body
Draw a long, curved crescent shape, like a smile tipped on its side. Start near the top, curve down and to the right, then bring the line back up to close the shape.
Step 3: The stem
At the top of the banana, draw a small rounded rectangle, like a little chimney. Let its bottom sit right on the top edge of the banana.
Step 4: The peel edge
Draw a smooth, U-shaped curve across the banana, like a bowl. Start at the left edge, dip down, and end at the right edge.
Step 5: The right peel
On the right side, draw a curved flap shaped like a pointy leaf. Start at the banana, swoop out to a point, and curve back in lower down.
Step 6: The left peel
Do the same on the left side. Draw another leaf-shaped flap that swoops out to a point and curves back to the banana.
Step 7: The bottom band
Near the bottom, draw a gently curved line straight across the banana. Add a tiny dot below it for a little spot.
Step 8: The happy face
Draw two round dots for eyes in the middle of the banana, below the U-shaped curve. Add a small curved smile below and between them.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a banana
- Sketch the crescent lightly first. If the curve looks wobbly, erase it and try again before you press hard.
- Make the two peel flaps about the same size, with pointy tips, so the banana looks balanced.
- Keep the face small and in the middle, between the U-shaped curve and the line near the bottom. Eyes that are too big can crowd the smile.

How to color your banana drawing
Color the banana a sunny yellow and the stem light green or brown. For a creative twist, make the peels rainbow colors.
Banana fun fact for kids
Bananas grow in bunches called hands, and each single banana in the bunch is called a finger. They grow pointing up toward the sky, not hanging down.
Questions about drawing a banana
What shapes do I need to draw a banana?
You need a long curved crescent for the body, a small rounded rectangle for the stem, a U-shaped curve, and two leaf shapes for the peels. Dots and a little curve make the face.
How do I make my banana look cuter?
Add two round eyes and a small smile, and keep the face small so it does not feel crowded. Even leaf-shaped peels on both sides help it look friendly.
How do I draw a banana peel opening?
Draw a U-shaped curve across the banana, then add a pointy leaf shape on each side. The flaps should curve outward like open petals.
