How to Draw a Hamburger (Easy Step by Step)
A smiling hamburger is a fun first drawing because every layer is a simple shape. You will use a half circle, a wavy line, a slice with a pointy drip, and a couple of rounded rectangles. Stacking the layers one under the other makes it feel like building a real burger.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The top bun
Draw a big half circle, like a rainbow, for the dome of the bun. Then close the bottom with a straight line going across from one end to the other.
Step 3: Wavy lettuce
Just under the bun's flat line, draw a long wavy line made of small bumps, like a ruffle. Round off both ends so the lettuce sticks out a little past the sides of the bun.
Step 4: The cheese
Under the lettuce, draw a wide flat slice that is a little narrower than the bun. Let the bottom edge dip down in the middle into a small pointy V, like a drip.
Step 5: Patty and bottom bun
Under the cheese, draw a long, wide rounded rectangle for the patty. Then draw a bowl shape under it, with a straight line across the top, for the bottom bun.
Step 6: A smiling face
On the dome, draw two round dots for eyes, side by side. Put a small curved smile between them and a bit lower.
Step 7: Sesame seeds
Add a few short, tilted dashes on the top of the dome for sesame seeds, each one slanting a different way. Keep them above and around the face so it stays easy to see.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a hamburger
- Draw the flat line under the dome carefully and keep it straight, because the lettuce hangs from it. A ruler or the edge of a book can help.
- The wavy lettuce is the trickiest part, so make a row of small, even bumps like a little caterpillar. Do not worry if they are not perfect, since real lettuce is wrinkly.
- Draw the cheese drip as a small V that points down toward the patty. Add the seeds last, and keep them above the face so the eyes and smile stay clear.

How to color your hamburger drawing
Try golden brown for the buns, bright green for the lettuce, yellow or orange for the cheese, and a deep brown for the patty. Leave the seeds light tan or cream so they show up on the bun.
Hamburger fun fact for kids
Sesame seeds grow inside pods that split open when the seeds are ripe.
Questions about drawing a hamburger
What shapes do I need to draw a hamburger?
You need a half circle for the top bun, a wavy line for the lettuce, and rounded shapes for the patty and bottom bun. A small V makes the pointy drip of the cheese.
How do I make my hamburger look cuter?
Add a face on the top bun with two round eyes and a small curved smile. Placing the eyes a little low on the dome makes it look extra sweet.
How do I draw the wavy lettuce?
Start at one side and make small, round bumps in a row, like a gentle wave, all the way across. Keep each bump about the same size, and let the ends stick out past the bun.
