  1. Step 1: Guide shapes

Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.

  2. Step 2: Body and face outline

Draw a big rounded curve for the bottom of the body, like the bottom of a loaf of bread. On the right, curve up and over to a pointy nose, like a soft triangle. Add a few tiny zigzag bumps at the far left.

  3. Step 3: Ear and face line

Draw a long curved line from the top of the head straight down to the bottom of the body to split the face from the body. Give it a small loop at the top for the ear.

  4. Step 4: Spikes on the left

Starting at the left side of the body, draw a zigzag line going up toward the top of the back, like a row of little mountains.

  5. Step 5: Spikes on top

Keep the zigzag going across the top of the back. Finish at the ear, with the last spike curving down beside it.

  6. Step 6: Two little feet

Under the body, draw two small upside-down U shapes, one near the back and one near the front.

  7. Step 7: Eye and smile

Add a round dot for the eye near the top of the face. Then draw a short curved smile near the nose.

  8. Step 8: Prickle marks

Scatter small curved V shapes, like tiny smiles, all over the body. Spread them out so they look like fluffy prickles.

  9. All done!

Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a hedgehog

  • Draw the zigzag spikes slowly. Make each point about the same height so the back looks even.
  • The ear loop sits right at the top of the line that splits the face from the body. Draw that line first so you know where to put the loop.
  • Space the little V marks out on the body and keep them all about the same size. Leave a gap between each one.
