A hedgehog in a Santa hat is a cozy, cheerful drawing, and it is built from shapes you already know: curves, ovals, circles, and a few zigzag points. The spiky sides are easier than they look because you only need to make little mountain shapes. By the end you will have a festive friend with a small ornament tucked into the spikes.

Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: Face outline
Draw two curved lines that make the sides of a rounded face, like a bowl. Start each one near the top and curve it inward so the two lines almost meet at a point at the bottom. Leave a gap at the top and at the bottom.
Step 3: Spiky fur and body
Draw a zigzag line like little mountains down each side of the face. Then connect the two sides with a smooth curved line along the bottom, like a wide bowl, to make the round body.
Step 4: Tummy ovals and ear
Draw two tall ovals side by side on the tummy. Then add a small curl at the top left of the face for an ear.
Step 5: Santa hat
Draw a long band across the top of the head, then a big curved hat shape rising from it. Let the tip flop to the right and finish with a small round pom-pom. Add a small curl at the right end of the band for the other ear.
Step 6: Eyes and nose
Fill in two round dots for the eyes, spaced apart. Draw a small round nose at the point at the bottom of the face.
Step 7: Smile and feet
Add a little curved smile under the nose. Then draw two small rounded feet that peek out under the bottom of the body.
Step 8: The ornament
On the left side, draw a small circle for a Christmas ball tucked in the spikes. Add a tiny tab on top so it looks like it hangs from the fur.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a Christmas hedgehog
- Draw the zigzag spikes slowly, going up and down in even steps. Make the points about the same size so the sides look neat.
- Draw the hat band first and then add the curved top, so the hat sits right on the head. Leave the pom-pom for last so you can place it where the hat tip ends.
- Draw the ornament as a small plain circle with a tiny tab on top. Keep it small so it does not crowd the spikes around it.

How to color your Christmas hedgehog drawing
Try warm brown for the body, a pale cream for the face and tummy, and bright red for the hat with a white band and pom-pom. For a creative twist, color the ornament with stripes or dots and add snowflakes in the background.
Christmas hedgehog fun fact for kids
Baby hedgehogs are called hoglets, and an adult hedgehog can have around 5,000 to 7,000 spines. When a hedgehog is scared, it can curl up into a tight prickly ball.
