Step 1: Guide shapes
Lightly sketch this oval. It only shows where the big parts go, so press softly. You will erase it at the end.
Step 2: The cashew shape
Draw a big curved bean shape like a fat comma or a letter C. Start with a round head at the top, curve down and around the left side, then swing along the bottom to a rounded tip on the right. Leave a deep dip in the middle.
Step 3: The happy mouth
Near the middle of the cashew, to the left of the dip, draw a small smile like a little bowl. Make the top line a gentle wave and the bottom a round curve.
Step 4: Eyes and shine marks
Draw two tiny circles above the smile, one on each side. Then near the top left, draw a short curved line inside the edge with two tiny dots below it, and add a short dash on the top edge of the dip.
Step 5: Inner curve shine
Below the smile, along the bottom of the dip, draw a curved line that follows the inside edge a little way in from the outline.
Step 6: Left side shine
Along the left and bottom edge, draw a long curved line that follows the outline, a little way inside it. Stop before you reach the bottom middle.
Step 7: Bottom right shine
Near the lower right, draw another curved line that follows the outline, starting low at the bottom and curving up toward the right tip.
Step 8: Little sparkles
Add tiny shiny marks: a short curved dash inside the top of the right tip, a small dash on the right edge, and a tiny dash near the middle below the dip.
All done!
Erase the guide shapes, go over your lines, then color it in.

Tips for drawing a cashew
- Draw the big shape lightly first, so you can fix the curve of the dip in the middle before pressing hard.
- Make the shine lines follow the outline, a little way inside it, so the cashew looks round and glossy.
- Keep the eyes as small circles with space between them, and put the smile below them.

How to color your cashew drawing
Color the cashew a warm tan or light golden brown, with a darker shade near the edges for roundness. Leave the shine lines a little lighter so they stand out.
Cashew fun fact for kids
Cashew nuts grow outside the fruit they hang from. The fruit is called a cashew apple, and each cashew sits in its own hard shell at the bottom of it.
